Costanzo Pietrosanti studied Mechanical Engineering and graduated in 1976 from the University of Rome, La Sapienza.
He became a researcher for the Italian R&D RTO Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A. (CSM) focused on metallurgy and steelmaking processes and, after three years, he worked as a structural engineer for SNIA PBD, a former Italian aerospace company (actually, FIAT AVIO). His chief focus was rockets for civil applications. During this period, he was also a member of the Integration Team working on the ARIANE V civil rocket.
Costanzo became a researcher in the field of fatigue, fracture mechanics and plasticity of metals applied to the cold stamping of automotive steels, implementing a support group for valorising HSLA, bake-hardening, dual and multi-phase steels.
Costanzo has acquired significant experience of industrial organization, management and performance assessment for R&D&I in industrial companies. He retired in February 2015.
Since May 2015 and currently, Costanzo is a senior consultant with Danieli Automation, representing the company at European Steel Technology Platform (ESTEP) meetings and launching several winning projects in the field of automation and digitalisation of steelmaking processes.
He has published more than 60 papers and was recognised by the AIST at AISTech 2024 in Columbus, Ohio, for his work on the role of digital supporting systems to significantly increase safety improvements in harsh environments (based on a paper presented at AISTech 2023, Detroit May 8-11). The paper in question was “Operational Safety and Digital Transformation: a Win-Win integration”. He is still active in the field of consultancy for the Danieli Group.
