To achieve the set CO2 reduction targets, voestalpine Stahl GmbH is constructing an electric arc furnace at its Linz site. The operation of this alternative route will subsequently lead to the decommissioning of a blast furnace. Running the new melting unit necessitates profound adaptations at the Linz production site. The impacts range from the supply of input materials to the steelworks, utilization of process gases, provision of scrap, through to the implementation of the electric arc furnace within the existing steelmaking plant. Integrating and connecting to the existing facilities presents a significant challenge, which must be addressed with customized solutions.
