Abstract - Leadership in a Volatile World
Steel producing companies continue to experience tremendous pressures on their performance driven by global growth volatility, trade tensions and the inherent cyclicality of the industry - not forgetting sustainability. To drive towards leadership in such an environment will continue to depend on core capabilities, such as efficient operations and strong customer service, but true market differentiation will be enabled through agility and innovation.
Key enablers for this require the ability to see and proactively operate across the supply chain, to extend into your suppliers and customers, to identify and utilize the right worker (and/or machine), and the ability to continuously learn and take optimal decisions. These abilities are provided through capability elements, such as sensors, data sharing, AI and machine learning, and by building on top of foundational elements, such as talent, security, and data integrity.
