Abstract - The Digital Dilemma Facing Steel
Many steel companies are facing a distinctly uncomfortable future. Traditional approaches to remaining competitive in a volatile environment, where there is little evidence of a return to sustained growth, are just not working. Steel companies need to be ready for “the New” – a world where markets are disrupted, where existing rules for products, services, value propositions, industry boundaries and economic models no longer apply; and where disruptions create a new playing field that operates on entirely different rules of engagement.
The digital re-invention of industry – Industry X.0 – will drive hyper-personalized experiences, new levels of efficiency, and new sources of growth driven by smart, connected digital technologies, products and services. The question many steel companies face is: “How should I move forward - to transform my business and workforce - so as to capture this opportunity and not be left behind?”
