Since 1984 LAP has supplied laser-based systems for high-precision measurements of geometric dimensions, such as width, thickness, length, diameter and flatness. LAP systems excel at providing ultra-precise measurement results under harshest operating conditions. Hundreds of LAP systems are tried and tested every day in steel and rolling mills worldwide.
Our aim is to save resources in the production process of long products with intelligent laser based measuring gauges for automatic inline detection of rolling defects.
So far, measuring gauges that measure the geometrical dimensions and the shape of wires and bars, profiles, or tubes, have become a standard in the rolling production of long products. Yet, although significant benefits can be materialized, there is still room for improvement with respect to excess production and producing scrap that needs to be recycled to save resources in terms of materials, energy, and workforce and operation time. The capability to intelligently detect rolling defects automatically supports the current efforts to automate the production of long products and enables the contribution to Industry 4.0 concepts. The LAP solution thus contributes to supporting the aims of achieving higher production efficiency, of resource savings through scrap minimization, and of reduced energy consumption in the overall production processes.
Among the customers of the company, which today employs more than 300 people, are leading steel makers such as Baosteel, Posco, ThyssenKrupp Steel and Vallourec.
The LAP staff support the company’s worldwide customer base from the headquarters in Lüneburg/Germany and through an international network of branches and technical agencies.
